Greek Solidarity: Europe-wide 'We're All Greek Now!' demos being planned for Saturday
We warned yesterday that this would happen. Too late, evil EU... it is happening.

Posted Image

Following the brutal supression of protest in Greece on Sunday, solidarity demonstrations in a number of European capitals are now being planned for this Saturday, 18th February under the unifying message of "We're All Greek Now!"... just as we predicted yesterday.

Planned participating people of (formerly sovereign) European nations are exclaiming: "When one people is attacked, all people are attacked."

We will try and find a more complete list of exact locations later (and continually update) but these are currently known to include:

10am: Via Mercanti, Milano, Italy
11am: Greek Embassy, Helsinki, Finland
Noon: Dom (Cathedral - in front of), Köln, Germany
1pm: Greek Embassy, London
1pm: Greek Embassy, Upper Pembroke Street, Dublin
1pm: Wittenbergplatz, Berlin, Germany
1pm: Rådhuspladsen, Copenhagen, Denmark
2pm: Greek Embassy, Paris (Metro: Trocadero)
2pm: Liberty Plaza (Zuccotti Park), New York, USA
2pm: Beursplein, Amsterdam, Netherlands
2pm: Rue des Petits Carmes 10, Bruxelles, Belgium
2pm: Norrmalmstorg, Stockholm, Sweden (with march to Greek Embassy)
3pm: City Chambers, High Street, Edinburgh, Scotland
3.30pm: Grasrótarmiðstöðin, Brautarholt 4, Reykjavík, Iceland
5pm: Plaça Catalunya, Barcelona, Spain
6pm: Praça do Rossio, Lisboa, Portugal
6pm: Praça da Republica, Coimbra, Portugal
6pm: Praça da Batalha, Porto, Portugal

There are a large number of solidarity protests planned in France, which take in not just Paris but also Clermont-Ferrand, Grenoble, Lyon, Marseille, Montpellier, Nantes, Nimes, Quimper, Saint Brieuc, Toulouse and Vannes.

In Greece itself, there seem to be plans for protests in "every square, every town" at 5pm on Saturday and Sunday including - of course - one at Syntagma Square.

There are currently signs of further solidarity protests being organised globally with Australia even amongst those seen being mentioned. Yet to be confirmed, we'll let you know if we see anything more on those.

Here's the solidarity protest circular - quoted verbatim and sourced from here:

Saturday 18th of February, international mobilization day :

We are all Greeks!

When one people is attacked, all people are attacked.

The 10th of February, the non elected Greece Government adopted a new hideous and destructive austerity plan, passed by the parliament (MPs voted 199-101 in favour) on the 12th of February.

The new austerity measures impose a 22% reduction in the minimum wage, which will remain frozen for the next three years; collective bargaining is simply cut; 15000 public sector workers are laid off and 150000 jobs will be destroyed due to the non-renewal of the contract...

The people of Greece is bravely rising up against social terror policies. With the media’s deafening silence, demonstrations, as well as general strikes, become more and more frequent despite the violent repression.

The people of Greece need the international solidarity and they call for our support [1]

Let’s reply to their call. We are all Greek!

Their mobilization is clashing with the wall of an European and international dictatorship, the dictatorship of the financial markets and the troika: EU, ECB and IMF, who have imposed austerity measures and a non-elected government on the Greek.

The EU governments are involved in the dictatorship and they implement measures which are in the same line in the rest of the countries. Greece is being used as a laboratory before generalizing these measures. The situation is going to get even worse due to the new European Treaty project, which will impose the « golden rule » in our national constitutions.

We reject to sacrifice the people to the money, as do the Greeks.

Let’s regain the reins of our lives.

Switch off your computer, join the mobilization!

There will be demonstrations everywhere in solidarity with the mobilization of the people of Greece, Saturday the 18th of February.

The upcoming protests follow on from solidarity protests which have already been staged in Barcelona and Belgium.

the numbers reported are but a mockery of the so called support for us by the rest of the world

so much so, that cnn and the bbc didnt even bother to mention anything, ...at least so far

dont know about the other newspapers from the other european centers, as i dont speak the language

bootom line

its all bulshit to give those in greece an inkling of legitimacy about their protests

how sad ..... for us ....that we even dare to think that the rest of europe even gives a flying continental about our woes

"Greetings from Greece!!! A warm thank you to all our expats in Australia and throughout the world who sympathise with and support the pain and anguish experienced by the citizens of Greece in this dark moment!

For over a year now, Greece and its people have been subjected to some very cruel and disparaging remarks, most of it unfair and incorrect, by almost the entire world, bar a few exceptions! At one time, we all felt terribly abandoned and lonely in Greece!

But even more damaging to our dignity and pride, were the hurtful remarks made by our expats in the USA, Australia, UK, Germany and other lands, who agreed with Germany that the Greeks were lazy, cheats & thieves, among other epithets! (As for the lazy label, a survey conducted by a respected British co. found that the Greeks worked the longest hours in the whole of Europe, with the LEAST holiday leave and the least renumeration!)

Geographically, we are in one of the most disadvantaged locations, being almost entirely surrounded by hostile Muslim nations! This makes us feel even more insecure and lonely, so you can imagine how we, in Greece, feel when we hear very few words of encouragement and support from our expats overseas.

Almost 1,5 mil (true figure) of us are unemployed; salaries have been slashed by betw. 20 and 40%; the meagre pensions also been reduced; medical aid is now almost non-existent; heavy property taxes & other types of taxes have been implemented and aimed at the lower classes!
Yet the Cost of Living has shot up dramatically over most other Western nations, VAT has gone up to 23% on all goods, incl basic foodstuffs; petrol is now unaffordable; and the minimum wage has gone down to third world standards!
As if that weren't enough, now Germany is threatening to impose even MORE stringent measures!!! Their intention is to wipe out the Greek race, it seems!!

If you were standing where I am standing, you would see it differently from the way our enemies like to see it!!

PLEASE GIVE US YOUR LOVE & SUPPORT, IT'S ALL WE ASK FOR!! GOD KNOWS WE NEED IT!!!!!!
LOVE FROM A BATTERED GREECE!!!"

Greek cabinet backs final austerity measures

Greece's cabinet has approved a final set of austerity measures sought by the EU and IMF as a condition for a 130-billion euro ($159 billion) rescue package, raising the chances of a deal next week to avert a chaotic default on its debt.

The approval on Saturday was largely a formality after Athens last week unveiled details of the extra budget and public sector wage cuts worth 325 million euros to eurozone partners.

Lingering doubts over whether Greece can bring its mountain of debt down to more manageable levels in coming years could still hold up the rescue package.

Some officials in the 17-nation currency union warn chances of a deal at a eurozone meeting on Monday are little higher than 50-50.

"The 325 million euros worth of measures were approved unanimously," said one minister, speaking on condition of anonymity about the cuts, part of a 3.3-billion-euro package of austerity measures that have triggered riots in Athens.

A government official said cabinet had also agreed to launch by March 8 a debt swap for private creditors with the aim of completing it by March 11.

The swap is intended to accompany the rescue deal and will mean that creditors take a 70 per cent cut in the real value of their holdings.

After months of often acrimonious negotiations, Greek hopes are rising that Monday's meeting in Brussels will endorse the rescue which Athens needs to avoid bankruptcy on March 20 when major debt repayments fall due.

"The Greek people have done everything they can and we are determined to make good on our commitments," public order minister Christos Papoutsis said before the meeting.

In a statement, prime minister Lucas Papademos regretted that extra pension cuts could not be avoided, but said the impact was limited because it would only affect the part of the pension above a monthly threshold of 1,300 euros.

"We all agree the immediate support of economic activity is a priority of the government's economic policy," he added, while not detailing what growth measures were under consideration.

A survey by pollster MRB for Sunday's Realnews newspaper shows 72.7 per cent of Greeks want the country to stay in the euro, but only about half believe it will manage to do so.
