To Russel,
I assume you have been to China or Hongkong, and I don't mind you use Chi xin to describe anyone, because it is still better than many stupid and indecent terms created in Northern China.

you mean like

''diu lei lou mou tsao fa hai''

in cantonese..i used this sometimes with taxi drivers when i was drunk and he didnt know how to get me home..

ohhh the good old days..ive missed them..ive become so moring these days..

it means..''fuck your mother's smelly vagina''

out of curiosity, how colorful is chinese swearing?

i mean.... would there be a chinese equivalent of "γαμώ τα βατραχοπέδιλα της γιαγιάς σου" which still would make sense

or the characterization of colorful strictly within the domain of greeks ? :on_the_quiet:

i wasnt rude to azaiko.

merely recanting the words i know..!

ha ha ha nothing but quality comes from my mouth..!

when youre drunk, and the cabbies try to take advantage of you,one has to learn the opdd phrase to defend one self..!

in HK and China i was an investment banker working for an American firm.
i retired recently, and came out of the partnership.

i am currently in HK and Asia,as i need to eat some PEking Duck, because Gemista gets on my nerves all the time..i need real Asian food..!

keep learning my friend..

stick around and we will teach you all the Greek swear words.

dont fuck around with other languages.
English,Cantonese,Mandarin,Greek and a touch of Japanese is all you need in life..and i wouldnt press too hard with the japanese either..ha ha ha !

γ is tricky. in 'sagopo' it is pronounced as 'g', but in some words it is pronounced as 'y' (y in yes).

Why d Greek pronounce it differently in different words?

Why do Greek pronounce it differently in different words?

sorry my friend but all what you said is based on what the english do, and not the greeks

there is no "g" or "y" in the language...just "γ" :)

on he other hand .... we have many "i"s which confuses the hell out of the foreigners -> "ι", "υ", "η", "ει" etc - and that just as an example

To eyosimos,

Could you have a check of my understanding of these sentences?
Χάρηκα που σε γνώρισα
harika pou se gn no risa

εγώ είμαι ψηλός.
ego imai psilos

εσύ είσαι μια γυναίκα
esi misai mia yin neka (y in here is similar to 'y' yes in english).

Thanks!

well azaiko the first think you have to learn is the pronunciation of vowels and consonants all the others are easy.

The greek language has it own flux so learn firstly the pronunciation

myfriend, you are still thinking in terms of english pronounciations

there are no "g" sounds from a signly letter

i want you to think of the english letter "y" ....ALWAYS it is pronounced "yee" - aka yes = yee-es

in greek the "y" is the closest equivalent to the greek "γ" - try this ... say "y" but push the bak of your tongue ever so slightly back, and not accomodatiing the "ee" sound in the mouth.... and there is where the sound is...... and that "γ" is ALWAYS the same throught the greek language. NO exceptions

soryy. but that is the best i can way i can describe it to you

To Foitionas,

εκ του μη έχοντος και κατέχοντος = απο αυτόν που δεν έχει και κατέχει

ek toy mi e-ho-ntos kai ka-te-ho-ntos = a-po af-ton pou den (d = th like though, the) exi ke ka-te-xi

Did you give me 2 Greek idioms?

I could not understand what are the meanings of these.

X was pronounced as 'H' in all examples except the last one 'κατέχει'. Could you tell me why the last one should be pronounced as 'X'?
