my aunty lives in Athens and she spoke to my mother yesterday saying that the Australian Government is accepting Greeks, find out what you need. You might be able to come into Australia without the need of getting married.

and as for the paper marriage, what happens when they ask you about her birthmark.... describe it and tell them where it is?

Thanx for ur concern TZAKI.

Just returned from the embassy.

It's unlikely my qualifications meet the specific occupations standards they r asking for but i ll check again these sites u r suggesting just in case.

Thus means have to apply for a tourist visa.
I noticed that i might be able to get ETA visa for a year as i mentioned before but i gotta get out of the country in three months time (i knew that) except its not sure i might be able to come back after one day or even one month. Unfortunately thats smt new i found out. And if trying the first option of almost instant re-entering from New Zealand i gotta answer to a lotta questions then because ETA is not designed to allow repeated extended stays in Australia.

Otherwise i have to apply for a tourist visa (subclass 676) which allows to stay for a year. In this case there's a charge about 80 euro not refunded if my application is unsuccessful. Its ok. But i may be asked to provide evidence that i have adequate funds (which i havent) to pay for emergency medical treatment while in Australia in order to satisfy the financial requirements for this visa. Also i may be asked to provide evidence of personal funds.
It seems im not eligible to get it.

So returning back to ETA which allows 3 months in the country. In order to avoid trouble i gotta find a sponsor and do a lotta paperwork to change ETA status but in three months time. So things are difficult.

As for marriage i have to prove that i know this person for almost a year. She has never been to Greece. Catchy.

Im sure Singapore would be a nice catch but as i wrote earlier, no money no honey. At least i can afford a ticket to Sydney and then having free accommodation plus food i will b able to search for a job. In Singapore if i cannot find anything, i got two months left before absolute nothing. Logical. Isnt it?

Panayioti; I can't offer you much advice, but even though I'm born here in Australia, I'd be inclined to agree with Ellin. If it means coming to Australia just to be a pizza and chicken delivery boy; you are probably better off doing it in Greece. Having said that, what's the worst that could happen by coming to see for yourself.... a couple of thousand EURO. If you are broke now, you'll still be broke when you go back to Greece.

You have two skill sets which might help get permanent residency.
If you can find an employer here that needs someone skilled in Greek language (unlike many of us Greeks here [not all] who read and write 'Greekglish' and that employer also needs someone that is skilled in audio/visual technology... then that employer can plead on your behalf that you are needed as a rare and 'key person'.
The government will take such cases in strong consideration in deciding on the granting of permanent residency.
Possible employers could be, radio/media, or to teach music at a Greek school, entertainment venue....

I am not a professional or well versed in this area, but it's most definitely one avenue for you to explore.

to person who plans on getting out of Greece...

Consider the following:

1. What happens when your friend gets sick of you and doesn't want you living in his house anymore?

2. you're unemployed right? how are you going to a) support yourself, b) pay rent or c) start your life from scratch. Let's cut the ridiculousness of this image in your head that your life is going to get better.

3. What do you plan on doing here for a living? What experiences do you have to support you? I can assure you that working as a part time waiter isn't going to be enough to cover your rent in St Kilda for a month.

People who have lived in Australia have struggled with the above, and some have lived here their entire lives. What can you bring to the table which makes you stand out?

I get that your life is difficult and that you're essentially struggling right now, but essentially if you won't be able to support yourself you might as well give up your dream. The best you can do is travel.

That's a pretty good 'best you can do'! Would gladly swap a secure job and a mortgage for the freedom to travel
