the day i prefer Jack Daniels to pussy, then i know i am a drunk.until then, when i can discriminate and chose,i know i am not.so please dont call me one..
true.my trips to the land of Oz have only been short term.
but if i had to live there all the time,i would propably get a gun and shoot myself.
i still need excitement and life after 11pm..!
call me strange, but driving around a graveyard, which is what Oz is after 7pm,is not my cup of tea..

and a peculiar thing..Sydney people do not have kalorifer..i dont know why.
their winters are down to 5 degrees, and they are huddled around some old warming machine..and they are all freezing..you see their hands and they are riddled with arthritis from the cold, but noone seems to have kalorifer..you see them huddled in blankets..
what a strange group of people they actually are...
people of melbourne are a bit more sensible.they take their heating more seriously.

Normally most people are sitting down at 7 to have their dinner, or going out for dinner. If you stayed in the city CBD you will find nothing, most business people getting ready to go home or out to eat.

Hello Roman and Welcome to GC...................... now i have been reading all the posts on here about you wanting to come over here (only short term). I agree with maniathc and ellin in regards to stay where you are...........stay in greece..........help greece. Thats my opinion....... Like I mentioned to someone whos overseas at the moment couple of weeks ago, Australia is not all it seems....(and everybody whos reading this.......its my opinion)........ Ta pragmata tis afstralia 8a ginoun tora (apo simera) hirotera.......
So Roman, stay in our beautiful country, Greece.....
Geia sas! I am new to this forum and you' ve done a nice job. I read the previous pages/posts and I would like to express my opinion about working in Greece but I don't know how it is to work abroad an any country. So, firstly, I can't tell if Roman is greek or not, maybe he was born in Greece and he migrated at the age of 1 with his family to England or US or Australia etc, so he can't speak greek what ever!
To the subject (:P), the last 5+ years Greece has a lot of problems including job opportunities and quality of life. I live in Athens and I would like to say how the things works here!
Nowadays, Greece has more serious problems than drunk people and snake bites!
Living in Athens: You only have to go for a walk after 23.00 to the center of Athens and check out what's going on! Trust me it's not at all like other multi-cultural cities of the world! If you don't leave in some suburbs of northern or southern Attica, crime has been raised a lot. Βεβαίως ισχύει παντού στον κόσμο το wrong place at wrong time. Moreover, the beaches of Attica, almost ALL of total residential buildings in the center of Athens are very filthy and old. All suburbs have 5 to 10 storey buildings (50 % are old) with no parking for all residents, so Attica has been a vast parking lot except Glyfada, Voula, Kifissia and Ekali. The transportation is awful except the metro subway which spreads only to 40 % of whole Attica, a city of almost 5 million residents. Parks and sport activities are in extinction for a city of almost 5 million people.
The unemployment has raised to 15% που σημαίνει ότι ΑΝ είσαι τυχερός και έχεις τον γνωστό/βύσμα θα μπορέσεις να βρεις μια
δουλειά που να μην είναι αυτό που έχεις σπουδάσει, δοκιμαστικά χωρίς να πληρώνεσαι για 1 μήνα και σε περίπτωση που hire you θα δουλεύεις at least 8-hour working (9 to 10 hours with no payment for the extra hours). Salaries? 3€ per hour for a without education/experience person and 4€ per hour for a person with 3+ years experience, Master diploma, 2 foreign languages fluently level, lots of seminars, and excellent skills of computer, finance, singing, dancing and cocteiling!! Furthermore, the police is corrupted. Last, but not least, I can't say something about the health system because does not exist.
To sum up, συγνώμη που σας κούρασα, αυτά που ανέφερα τα ξέρετε ήδη, my point is that Acropolis, the beautiful beaches, islands, mountains, sunsets, climate, people, hospitality, nightlife, moysaka, souvlakia etc are not enough for the greeks to stay in Greece and help Greece because Greece isn't helping us. Greece is paradise for tourists but not for the greeks (not all of them). Politicians guarantee us that for the next 10 to 15 years we won't have a quality of life to start raising a family with the basic supplies. NO MONEY NO HONEY! Of course money isn't the best thing for all but it's the first thing to be human and not kanivalos! This is just surviving now for greeks. It's not depending from us the "weak" population to change the situation. Οι έλληνες νοιώθουμε για την Ελλάδα ότι κολυμπάμε στον ωκεανό και πεθαίνουμε από δίψα!
Finally, why people who migrated to another country for better quality of life and better opportunities for everything, tell the rest to stay back and face the shit??!! Sorry για την έκφραση! And Australia has its own problems too. Of course no country is the perfect country.
Φιλικά πάντα από κάποιον που θέλει να ζήσει σαν άνθρωπος σε χώρα που να σέβεται τους πολίτες της, Νικολάκης!
Ευχαριστώ

leave greece, and face the challenges of another country and another world and see how you like it.
i have lived and worked in a non greek enviroment all my life.
i can assure you that to live in the outside world having grown up greek, and lived in greece is a very tough call.
you or others who insist on trying it,are in for a rude shock.
you do not have the work ethic to work in an anglo saxon enviroment, nor do you have the discipline.
this doesnt mae you inferior.
it may actually make you superior in many ways.
but to infer that you or others like you who have spent your time, sipping frappucinos in glyfada,or in gazi,or whoring around in peristeri at 3 am..can actually be able to exist in cities such as sydney or melbourne where the lights go out at 8pm,and the place exists at the time only for the odd cocroaches which venture out..is a huge order..
stop thinking just of money and focus on what greece offers..a lifestyle second to none.
i say this as someone who doesnt live in greece currently, nor in australia.
i have no reason to attack australia.
i merely call it as i see it..

during medieval days in western europe, where the catholic church reigned supreme, the clerics would drag those suspected of witchcraft through the streets.
throw them in the river with stones, and if they drowned they were hailed as not being witches.
if they survived they were denounced as witches and then burnt.
if this could happen today to Simitis, and Karamanlis...Tzohatzopoulos,and Voulgarakis..Rossopoulos and Papaconstantinou...
Greece would be a better place...!
actually whislt we are at it,throw Tsipra in as well..he is a hypocrite of the highest order...acting holy and running a construction company with his brother on the sidelines..destroying more of Athens as more concrete jungles are created whislt he asks the youth to create chaor and mayhem..
