Motivation, staying close to the heater!

In winter I put on weight, I admit it, I could not care less! I hate the gym, its too dark to do a walk and most of the time it is raining, if I can I will just get a walk in on the weekend, thats it.

It's tough.. especially over winter no question.

The key to is going straight after work, or have a set time that you force yourself to follow, keep a log of your activity...and a lot of it is what you eat.. no excuses.. make it a habit and be clear on your own personal goals and make the change.. only you can do it and only you will suffer the consequences health wise or otherwise.

i think i can handle this

Can you get fit in six minutes a week?
six minute workout
Could you be exercising too much? Martin Gibala from McMaster University in Ontario, Canada recommends scrapping your usual hour-long workout in favour of a shorter, more intense session.

In one recent group study, Gibala and his colleagues studied a selection of healthy college students, who rode stationary bikes at a sustainable pace for between 90 and 120 minutes. Another set of students grunted through a series of short, strenuous intervals: 20 to 30 seconds of cycling at the highest intensity the riders could stand. After resting for four minutes, the students pedalled hard again for another 20 to 30 seconds, repeating the cycle four to six times for a total of two to three minutes of very intense exercise per training session.
Each of the two groups exercised three times a week. After two weeks, both groups showed almost identical increases in their endurance even though the one group had exercised for six to nine minutes per week, and the other about five hours.

The short, intense workouts aided in greater weight loss than the longer workouts too, although Gibala hadnt been studying that effect. Other researchers have found that similar, intense, brief sessions of exercise improve cardiac health, even among people with heart disease.

Theres a catch, though. Those six minutes, if theyre to be effective, must hurt. We describe it as an all-out effort, Gibala says. Youll be straying well out of your comfort zone. That level of discomfort makes some activities better-suited to intense training than others. We havent studied runners, Gibala says. The pounding involved in repeated sprinting could lead to injuries. But cycling and swimming work well. Although the study is not conclusive a yet, the six minute workout may be the new fitness wavestay tuned.

I see my personal trainer at fitness first 2ce a week....it's tough. I wouldn't be able to do it if I didn't have a trainer pushing me.

My fave work-out is the boxing with my trainer, but I also like the "chin-up bench-press" thing and the bench-press for the legs [don't ask me what their proper name is, I just do what I'm told].

Streching is also very important & keeps you flexible.

I agree re: "forcing yourself" to follow the plan - that's why I have a personal trainer, he keeps me accountable.

You're a feisty girl, aren't you?

I love that ad on TV where the girl gives the punching bag everything she's got. The look on her face is priceless. I think it's some financial consultancy firm.

Haven't seen the ad but I probably look similar...One session my trainer made me train outside - I had to box and run up and down stairs like Rocky Balboa, I even asked him to sing the tune out. I had a public audience too but was so focused I didn't notice [I hope no one posted it up on You Tube!] It was nightime after work, freezing and I couldn't breath by the end of it. Would I ever do that without my trainer pushing me? No way.
