one cannot read such a book, without also reading the "counter-argument" books as well

not unless one want to rejoice in bias

in answer to your question, though, yes, ....and ditto to my response

they really get you mind to "play games in pondering" to say the least

Why not? People do so all the time, i.e. read the Bible or Koran without reading a book like this to balance things out. wink

yes he does.....but then the prerequisite is, a need to get a balanced opinion.

its no better than an atheist reading this book to justify in his/her mind their own believes, without finding the need to read about those who have faith

its all about an inquisitive mind - most people don't posses one, or feel the need to have one

i remember a priest encouraging us to question our beliefs- because he said it would ultimately bring us closer to God..............

im still at the questioning bit....

Still, you're holding atheists to higher standards of intellectual rigour than the billions of believers around the world. Why? Why is it more acceptable to πίστευε και μη ερεύνα?

WOW

Religion is flawed because man is flawed.

My mind tells me I will never understand God. And my heart tells me I am not meant to.

That, my friend, is an anachronism of the turkish occupation, due to the circumstances of those times - most who were left in our "part of the world" were illiterate or uneducated at best, and we had this HUGE pressure to convert, and has found its place in our "folklore". Is it not ironic, the very religion that prosecuted the Hellenes for being that, and down-trodden our "Greekness", whatever the interpretation might be, were also the ones that somehow preserved it during those trying times

As tigress suggested, the "official" position of our church is "Πίστευε, ....αλλά ερεύνα", at least that is what our local bishop told me. Seems to me that there is some doubt in, not our believes, but what "man" has "introduced" into them throughout the ages. and as tigress suggested, most of us "free thinkers" are still at the "questions" stage, and will be till we die
