i have been staying in this house rental for 4 months, but i have across this problem, and was kind of hoping some greek person can explain to me what i have done wrong, in regards dating greek village girl, who is living with her mother next door to me.must have been back in october, when i talked to her daughter, and was caught by her mother. mother was wary i was around, and would stay home to watch her daughter who just comes home for weekends, as she is at college.well i thought back off, no way, and that was the end of that, or so i thought, until december, when i was invited for chrismas dinner, which i thought was very nice, and wasnt expecting the daughter of the mother trying to come onto me, whilst around the whole family.me being me, didnt realise what was happening, so left it alone, till the light bulbs went off in my brain, lol.well to cut a long story short,i was desperate to ask her out, so i asked her mother permission to date her daughter, to which she, the mother said no we cant come for drink, we arte going to see sister, think she may have misunderstood, although daughter is very good at english, so here i am, sitting in house, desperate to send her flowers and go out this valentines day, but tell me my greek friends, should i send her flowers and ask her out, and risk being asked to leave rental, or just try to forget her and move on. i look forward to hearing from you, i really need to know,
many thanks simon field

hmmmm...interesting problem. Why do you call the girl in question a "Greek Village Girl" [are you renting in some kind of Village? In Cyprus? - sorry, need some clarification].
A few questions come to mind:-
1/Are you certain that the Mother was "coming onto you"? Greek Mothers are notoriously effectionate with Guests - my Mother kisses everyone that walks through the door on the cheek. They are warm & hospitable. They'll pat you on the back or the leg and ask you if you want more wine or some Greek dessert. This is just general friendliness & Greek Hospitality. Don't question it, enjoy it!
2/How old is this College Student? If she's under 21, her parents may be overprotective. It may be best you date the daughter without their knowledge if the daughter is so inclined. Or maybe just be friends for now & ease on into Boyfriend role a bit later when they realise you're a good guy. They won't automatically trust you if the girl is, say, 18. You need to prove yourself.
3/ Prove yourself by being a gentleman - Greek Mothers love polite, well-dressed suitors. Greek Dads are a bit more difficult to pursuade at times unless you're a Doctor or Lawyer. Don't ask why, they just do.
I hope that's helpful.
